Laboratory of inorganic geochemistry

The laboratory offers classical chemical analysis of major elements of rocks as well as dissolution of rock samples for further trace element analyses.
Provenance of sediments and petrography of their associated source(s) are interpreted through the comparison of heavy minerals. Heavy minerals are concentrated using a typical 'sink float' heavy media separation using sodium polytungstate adjusted to a gravity of 2.89 g/cm3 or any other required. Heavy mineral analysis is focussed on the 63–125µm, 125-250µm or 63-250µm sand fraction. Minerals are separated by means of a centrifuge or a classical gravitational methods.
The laboratory occupies accommodation equipped with modern analytical instrumentation.
